After Rahul Gandhi’s Detention, Uddhav Thackeray Hits Out at Election Commission Over Voter Fraud

New Delhi, August 11, 2025 — A big political drama unfolded in Delhi today when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and several opposition leaders were detained by police during a protest march to the Election Commission’s office.

The leaders were marching as part of their “Vote Chori” (vote theft) campaign, accusing the Election Commission of helping the ruling BJP in voter list fraud.

What Happened in Delhi

Rahul Gandhi, along with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Akhilesh Yadav, Mahua Moitra, and other INDIA alliance leaders, started walking towards the EC office to demand fair elections.

Police stopped them midway, saying the march had no permission. The situation became tense, and several leaders were taken away in police vehicles. In the heat and chaos, at least two MPs fainted.

Uddhav Thackeray’s Allegations

Soon after, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray strongly attacked the Election Commission. He claimed that one crore new voters were mysteriously added in Maharashtra between the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

“Where did so many new voters come from? Were they added to our addresses without our knowledge?” Thackeray questioned.

He also supported Sharad Pawar’s statement that someone had offered to “guarantee” 160 Assembly seat wins during the 2024 polls — raising more doubts about election fairness.

“Vote Chori” Campaign

The opposition’s “Vote Chori” campaign is aimed at exposing irregularities in voter lists and EVMs. The issue has become more serious with upcoming elections in Bihar, where the voter list is currently being updated.

Leaders like MK Stalin from DMK have also backed Rahul Gandhi, asking for full transparency.

BJP’s Reply

The BJP has rejected all these allegations. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis mocked the opposition, calling their claims a “Bollywood story” written to stay in the news.

Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut made another claim — that Thackeray was offered a chance to win 60–65 difficult seats by tampering with EVMs, but he refused.
